This illustrates that building good relationship in your workplace in essential to improving your work efficiency. Today, I will discussing 3 ways on how to build positive relationships in a workplace.

#1 Develop your people skills

Firstly, it is important that you master comfortable body language. Active listen by nodding, listening and paying full attention to that person you are talking with are common ways to show that you are handling your body language well.  Other than that, understanding cultural norms. Each individual in a workplace might come from different backgrounds or even different countries, it is important that we show respect to each other. For example, instead of shaking hands, Japanese will bow to each other during their meeting to show utmost respect.

#2 Schedule Time to Build Relationships

Make time to get to have a better understanding of your colleagues. It could also be a 5 minutes session like catching up over coffee during coffee break. By asking how is their day, what did they have for lunch and so on are ways to start a conversation and to avoid awkwardness.  These little foundations help in building relationships, especially if they are face-to-face.

#3 Appreciate Others

Say thank you! That is the easiest way to show that you are grateful when someone lends a helping hand to you. Everyone, from your boss to your office's cleaner, wants to feel that their work is appreciated. A way to express appreciation could be complimenting them when they have done a good job. This could possibly motivate them to do better in the future. These ways will open doors to creating a good work relationship.
