Emotional Intelligence

A lot of people now perceive emotional intelligence (EQ) is more important than one’s intelligence (IQ) in attaining success in their lives and careers. As individuals our success and the success of the profession today depend on our ability to read other people’s signals and react appropriately to them. After being as an Assistant Accountant position for 2 years, I feel that I am now ready to take a leap and challenge myself in taking over the Accountant position.

Some emotional intelligence traits that highly describe my character and personality are as below:

1. Self-awareness - I have the ability to recognize different emotions possessed by different people. In the workplace, different people will have different emotions each day. However, you need to be aware or your own emotion and the effects to it.  If you try to evaluate your emotions, it is possible to manage them. Also, you will need to be confident as well, making sure about your self-worth and capabilities that you are able to contribute to the company. Hence, self-awareness should be highly valued in the workplace.

2. Motivation - It is important to motivate yourself for any achievement requires clear goals and a positive attitude. Although you may have a predisposition to either a positive or a negative attitude, you can try to put in more effort to practice and learn how to think more positively. Nonetheless, if you catch some negative thoughts as they occur, you can reframe them in a more positive way that can help you to achieve your goals. For example, try your best to commit in a certain task. Also, be initiative and try to have a drive for achievements. Your constant striving can help you to move forward to improve or to meet a standard of excellence. Lastly, being an optimistic person, it is important to pursue your goals persistently despite obstacles and setbacks.

3. Social skills - The development of good interpersonal skills contributes to your success in your life and career. In today's world, everyone has immediate access to technical knowledge. Thus, "people skills" are even more important now because you must possess a high EQ to better understand, empathize and negotiate with others in a global economy. Among the most useful skills are: influencing, communication and building bonds with other people. Having an outgoing personality, I believe I can communicate and create a strong bond with others. For example, going to networking events are one of the ways in enhancing my social skills. I believe if the company can expand its network, it would definitely contribute a lot of beneficial factors.

In conclusion, I hope I will get the promotion into getting an Accountant position in our company as I believe I can help the company to strive forward, and as well, to improve my own skills and knowledge in the company.
